TEHRAN – Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has called on the U.S. authorities to make a change in their policies toward Iran.

“I am telling American authorities that you should decide and make a major shift in policy... You have only one option in the face of the Iranian nation and that’s you should speak to them with the language of respect and honor,” Rouhani said in an address to the people of Sanandaj in the western province of Kordestan on Sunday.

Rouhani noted that the United States sometimes makes mistakes in its rhetoric regarding the Islamic Republic due to the its numerous domestic problems.

Everybody knows that the Islamic Republic cannot be threatened through the use of sanctions or pressure, he added.

He pledged that the Iranian officials will not rest till they break all the “chains of sanctions” against the country in order for the Iranian nation to realize all its inalienable rights.

Rouhani said that during the last round of nuclear negotiations in the Austrian capital of Vienna, the world once again bowed before the Iranian nation’s determination and resistance.

Calling the nuclear accord a “historic victory” for the Iranian nation, he said that the U.S. admitted the fact that Iran does not bow to pressure.


“What we achieved was resulted from God’s help and resistance, unity and integrity of the Iranian people,” he stated.

“We resolved the nuclear issue at the negotiating table. We are also capable of settling other regional and global issues in this regard through negotiations,” Rouhani said.

Iran and the 5+1 group - the United States, Britain, France, China and Russia plus Germany - finalized the text of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) in Vienna on July 14.


On July 20, the UN Security Council turned the JCPOA into international law by endorsing a resolution, setting the stage for the lifting of the Security Council sanctions against Iran.

Iran supports the oppressed

Elsewhere in his remarks, Rouhani said if it were not for the Islamic Republic of Iran, the Iraqi cities of Erbil and Baghdad would have fallen to the hands of terrorists.

“The Iranian nation will support all the oppressed nations in the region, and will wipe the terrorist off the region through unity and integrity,” he said.

“Iran is the safest and most stable country in the region thanks to the resistance of the nation,” the Iranian president said.

The remarks came at a time that the northern and western parts of Iraq witness violence by the ISIL terrorists that began their march through the Iraqi territory in June 2014.
